A bit of history

St. Martin's cathedral is one of the most significant symbols of Bratislava. It was built in the 12th century and almost immediately became the center of an everyday life. Originally a Roman architecture has been converted in the Gothic style in the 13th century and remained till today.

Nowadays

Except the extra events, St. Martin's cathedral, as a National cultural monument, is open in the following hours and the entrance is free.

Get there on foot

Cathedral is easily accessible by walking distance from the city center via following streets Kapitulská or Ventúrska. It lays on the square called Rudnayovo námestie.

If you want to go to the castle from here, or vice-verse, you will need to walk down the street and then under the bridge. There is a pedestrian path heading to the street called Židovská. For more detailed information, follow the page, how to get to the Bratislava castle.

Get there by public transport

The closest tram and bus station is located only about 3-5 minutes, walking from cathedral is called "Nový most". It is one of the central public transport stations in city, so you can get here from almost any direction.

Get there by car

It is not recommended to go to the city center by car because of the lack of parking places. However, there are two parking places close to St. Martin's Cathedral.

The non-paid one is located just at the end of Židovská Street under the castle. It is not an official parking place but still you can leave your car there. Even though it is a bit hard to navigate there, it is closer to the Cathedral and to Bratislava castle, as well.

The second opportunity is to leave the car in the underground garage on Hviezdoslavovo námestie square. It belongs to the Hotel Carlton, however it is still accessible for the non-customers. The cost is around 2,30 - 3,50€ per hour depending on the day and is opened from 7:00 - 1:00.
